FINAL BOOK REVIEWS HELD OVER FROM 23 MARCH + COMPETITION ENTRIES FROM MARCH. (If there is time, manuscripts)

We shall kick off with the four remaining book reviews held over from 23 March; and,, entries from our last writing competitions not as yet read out by their authors. If time, the remainder of evening shall be devoted to manuscripts.

In the interests of fairness, please can manuscripts be kept to 1000 words max; and book reviews to 300 words.

Tea and Coffee will be available. Please bring your own cup.

Subs can be paid in cash on this evening:

On 13 June 2026, the Oxhey Village Fete will be taking place and Watford Writers have a bookstall. If you would like your own books to be sold at the fete, please bring to the Quakers Hall and hand to Pat Simpson. If you have books for a raffle, please also bring these, wrapped, and pass to Pat Simpson - these should be clearly marked "Adult" or "Children"

WRITING PROMPT

Theme: NEOLOGISM. 

Your task: INVENT A NEW (English) WORD

The Bard gave us majestic, tranquil, and radiance. Dickens introduced us to butterfingers, abuzz, and flummoxed. Without Dr. Seuss, a nerd would simply be a person who is extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable about a particular subject, especially one of specialist or niche interest. And who’d have thought we needed mansplaining in our lives? 

Now, it’s your turn to coin your own brilliant NEW WORD. 

Define it. What’s its syntax? Give us a scenario. Weave it into a story, a poem, or a memoire—or just use it in a sentence (or three).

Who knows? Your word could join the ranks of rizz, delulu, and tradwife, and become the next big catch phrase. Oxford Dictionary entry, anyone? 

But please keep it shweet—short and sweet. (See what I did there?)

Under 300 words, please.
