OUR CURRENT WRITING COMPETITION

Our writing competition for November is Flash Fiction. The theme: The Meal.

(NB: This will be our final writing competition of 2025)

You are invited to write a piece of flash fiction on the above theme - no more than 500 words, and submit up to two entries by 7pm on Friday 14 November 2025.

Competition rules:

You should title your work clearly (not using the word "meal").
Do not place your name on your entry(s).
500 words maximum. No minimum limit.
Word doc or pdf format is accepted.
Please avoid using language, words or phrases that may cause offence.
Please read your entry(s) carefully before submission as changes may not be possible after submission.
Deadline for entry(s): 7pm, Friday 14 November 2025.
Please Email your entry(s) to ianwelland@hotmail.co.uk
Please ensure your entry(s) is brand new and has not been previously read out anywhere or published in any format or on any platforms (including online).
You should receive an Email in return confirming your entry(s) has been acknowledged.
Remember: if you enter the competition, you will be expected to score the competition entries - if you do not score the competition entries, your own entry(s) will be withdrawn. Scoring details to follow.
Competition will go "LIVE" on the website at 10am on Saturday 15 November 2025.

If any of the above rules are contravened in any way, your entry(s) will be withdrawn and no correspondence entered into.

Watford Writers competitions are only open to those on our current Email mailing list.

Results of our competition will be announced at our Zoom meeting on 24 November 2025.

CREATIVE WRITING inspired by CONTEMPORARY ART

A couple of years ago, we enjoyed a creative writing session inspired by paintings. We return to the theme once more but with a "twist" - this time the focus is on comtemporary art (whether that be painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, installation art, mural, graffiti, or performance art - the choice is endless).

"Contemporary" in that your art choice must be post-1980.

In preparation for this session, you are invited to write a piece of poetry (12 - 48 lines), monologue, non-fiction, or flash fiction of up to 500 words inspired by your choice, and read out on the night.
